Engine Revolutions Per Minute

The engine RPM is measured in two independent ways: a mechanical tachometer in the Dynamometer and an electronic tachometer in the display rack. These devices measure the rotation rate of the engine crankshaft. A single power stroke occurs for every two rotations of the crankshaft in this four stroke, spark ignited engine.

Engine RPM data is used in conjunction with engine torque measurements in steady state to obtain the output work of the transparent engine.

This work calculation should be compared to work estimates obtained from (p,v) data obtained under the same conditions for the engine working fluid.
