Running the Interface

The interface will only produce an input file if all or part of the model contains a mesh created by FEMGEN using the command 'MESHING GENERATE ALL/part'. Once the model has been meshed, the interface may be run using the FEMGEN command 'UTILITY WRITE ANSYS filename'. The file name is optional and the default name is 'modelname.anl'. When the user supplies a file name with no extension, the extension '.anl' will be automatically added.

The interface prompts the user with some questions. The user is asked to specify the type of analysis required. The choice is presently static or modal analysis. If static analysis is chosen and if the model is two-dimensional, then the user must specify whether it is plane strain, axisymmetric or plane stress. In the case where modal analysis is chosen the method and relevant parameters must be entered. Default values (written in brackets) can be selected by just a RETURN key stroke. The '/' character at any of the questions will abort the interface.

FEMGEN TO ANSYS INTERFACE VERSION 4.100

ENTER ANALYSIS TYPE (STATIC/MODAL) (STA) >

ENTER MODEL TYPE (P-STRAIN/AXI/P-STRESS) (P-STRAIN) >

The model can then be analysed in ANSYS by typing the ANSYS execution command with the input file name and an optional output file name, such as:

ansys51 <modelname.anl> modelname.out
