Note that the I/O on the temporary files is buffered into blocks of 1024 integers words. It will probably be necessary to specify the record length when opening these files. For most machines a record length of 4096 bytes is appropriate (i.e. 4 bytes/integer word).



Note also that all error/information messages produced by the Database Interface Routines on units IUMES1 and IUMES2 are exactly 80 characters long.
