The Study Collections consist of reference tools, such as the Decimal
Index of the Art of the Low Countries, scholarly compilations based
on a particular research interest such as the Weitzmann Archive, and
microfiche collections documenting photo archives such as Archivi
Alinari.
WAYNE ANDREWS COLLECTION
Photographs of American architecture (18th
– 20th C.) taken by the photographer Wayne Andrews. The collection
includes photographs of European buildings that influenced or were
influenced by American architects.
JAMES AUSTIN COLLECTION
Photographs of Romanesque and Gothic architecture
and sculpture taken by the photographer James Austin. The collection
includes photographs of 18th & 19th C. architecture in Paris,
Greek temples and theaters in Sicily & Paestum.
BARTSCH COLLECTION
Photographs of 15th - 17th century German,
Italian and Dutch prints described in Adam von Bartsch's catalogue
Le Peintre-Graveur (Vienna, 1803-21). The collection includes prints
from the British and Metropolitan Museums and other collections not
included in the original Bartsch volumes.
ANANDA COOMARASWAMY COLLECTION
Photographs of architecture, painting, sculpture
drawings and minor arts of India and Southeast Asia. The photographs
are part of Princeton’s collection of materials, relating to
Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, which were donated to the Bollingen Foundation
by Dona Luisa Coomaraswamy. The collection also contains documentary
photographs depicting labor and leisure activities indigenous to the
region.
COURTAULD INSTITUTE ARCHIVES
Illustrations selected from the photographic
surveys of Britain and Europe undertaken by the Courtauld Institute
of Art in London. The collection includes reproductions of the following:

KLAUDER - DAY COLLECTION
Thirty scrapbooks containing images of American
and European architecture and architectural details compiled by the
architects.
A. SHELDON PENNOYER COLLECTION
British, French and US military photographs
of the allied advance at the end of World War II. US Capt. Pennoyer,
member of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Subcommission of
the Allied Commission, collected the photographs, reports, and correspondence.
The commission was directed Ernst T. Dewald (Class of 1916), professor
in the Department of Art and Archaeology and director (1946-1960)
of the Princeton Art Museum. Collection includes Pennoyer’s
personal photos documenting the damage and subsequent restoration
of artistic monuments in Italy.

HOMER A. THOMPSON COLLECTION

the Agora excavations in Athens from the 1930’s through the
1960’s, including some material added in later years. The photos
document the excavations, artifacts, and reconstruction of the ancient
marketplace. The plans record individual monuments as well as the
overall architectural scheme of the area.

views. The illustrations include architectural drawings, street scenes
and topographical views of France.
Early Photography in France includes works by Eugene Atget and the
Nadars.
