Gabe Hudson served as a rifleman in the marine reserves. His first book, Dear Mr. President (2002), was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award and received the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Dear Mr. President has been translated into seven languages, and was named a Best Book of the Year by The Village Voice, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and GQ. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, BookForum, GQ, Black Book, The Village Voice, and he was a contributing writer for HBO’s book, Six Feet Under (2003). Gabe was recently featured in an Esquire portfolio as one of the “finest new writers in America.” His stories have been included in The Best of McSweeney’s Vol. 1 (2005) in the U.S., and The Best of McSweeney’s Vol. 2 (2005), in the UK. He has taught fiction writing workshops at Brown University. Hudson is the Faculty Adviser for Green Light magazine, Princeton's largest student-run publication, and he is the Editor-at-Large for McSweeney's.
