Topics in the Sociology of Latin America: Gender and
Development in the Americas
(II, SA)
Professor P.
Fernandez-Kelly
Description/Objectives: This course examines gender as an
integral component of socio-economic development in advanced and
less developed countries. We give special attention to processes
of industrial restructuring on a global scale that have increased
the participation of women in the formal labor force. Our focus
will be on the United States and selected areas of Latin America.
In addition to a review of theories on development, we explore
feminist currents of thought. Please see "other information" for
continuation of course description.
