053

If you are using the PCC 053 web form in order to have a Cutter reserved for a literary author, you need not be concerned about the directive to add a reference to the subarrangement table.

This directive applies only to the making of a proposal to have a literary author number published in the P schedule. For this procedure, you would use the standard SACO classification proposal form and would include after the caption for the author's name a reference to the subarrangement table (usually TABLE P-PZ40). On line, this reference will be a hot link to the table.

Such a proposal is often warranted by the need to include in the schedule a cross reference from the AACR2 form of the name to the previously established form on which the author number is based.  This would apply no matter what the language of the author in question might be.

--------------------

There has been no change to the current practice of HebNACO members  requesting 053's for Hebrew and Yiddish authors directly from the Hebraica Team, rather than using the PCC web form.  The instructions posted on the SACO list relate only to proposing the publication of numbers in the P schedule, not to reserving 053's.

Instructions excerpted below from the minutes of the weekly meeting:

CLASSIFICATION

Individual literary authors in the P schedules
Explicit links to the P-PZ tables have now been added, where appropriate, to  individual literary author numbers in LC
Classification Online and in Classification Web.  These links provide access to the subarrangement table by clicking on the link.
Catalogers are requested, when submitting new proposals to establish individual literary author numbers, always to include with the caption for the author's name a reference to the appropriate subarrangement table (usually Table P-PZ40).
