The Drumbeat 2000 & Macromedia Saga

When Did Macromedia Decide To Discontinue Drumbeat?

Only Macromedia knows this for sure. However, there are a number of statements which have been made by Macromedia employees on the various Macromedia newsgroups which give us some indication of the timing.

As you can see from the following post by Matt from Macromedia talking about the Dynamic Link feature of Adobe GoLive, "this his part of UD was spec'd out before DL was released. DL was released on December 5, 1999 at Builder.com." So a complete specification for this aspect of UltraDev had been completed before 12/5/1999. I would expect that this puts the decision to discontinue Drumbeat back at least to October, perhaps even September of 1999 or before.

FWIW, this part of UD was spec'd out before DL was released. DL was
released on December 5, 1999 at Builder.com and we all went to the demos
and got a real good look at it then, but our spec was done and was
superior in any event.
