A letter from a reader: Princeton's fine military officers

I've just finished reading the fine article written by E.B. Boyd '89 in your Nov. 7 issue. As a longtime employee of the University and a veteran of the U.S. Army, 94B food service specialist, and currently a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, 2T2 Aerial Porter, I found it refreshing to hear about some of our alumni who have taken Princeton's "in the nation's service, and in the service of all nations" motto to heart.

As a chef for the University, I've had the good fortune to feed most of the troops in this article. Matt Scherrer '01 come to mind the most. Matt and I became good friends while I worked at Butler/Wilson and he was in ROTC. I still have, and wear proudly, a Princeton ROTC Battalion crest that he gave to me before he graduated. I will be soon deploying overseas with the Air Force, "in the nation's service," and I hope that I can represent Princeton as well as the fine officers of Princeton.
