October 19, 2005: From the archives
The year was 1965 and the fad, as photographed by UPI, was skating to
class. Princetonians who achieved notoriety when this photo appeared in
the New York Herald–Tribune were, from left: Hamilton Magill
’66 and ’67ers Christopher Calder, John Bitner, Christopher
Cooke, John West, Douglas Kelbaugh, James Millar, and Charles McDowell.
According to the paper, Magill and West were picked up by police on Nassau
Street for not having front and back lights on their “vehicles.”
