July 7, 2004: From the Archives Crew members work out at Princeton’s rowing tank in this 1970s
photo. A year-round training area with an enclosed rowing tank next to
the boathouse was dedicated in 1972. A year later, the men’s lightweight
crew capped an undefeated season by winning the Thames Challenge Cup.
In the new state-of-the-art training facility, part of the C. Bernard
Shea ’16 Rowing Center that opened in 2000, there are two boat bays
and an indoor tank for 16 rowers. Can any readers identify these athletes?
