MEASUREMENTS OF THE HEAT OF COMBUSTION

Abstract

The heat of combustion of a material may be determined by measuring the heat released when it is burned in oxygen under constant volume conditions. The "Bomb Calorimeter" is an apparatus designed to make such measurements and it will be used to determine the heat of combustion of carbon or carbon-containing materials. Both solid and liquid fuels will be studied and their suitability for stationary and mobile power plants explored.
