4:1 Streamwise Images
The following single-shot FRS images are streamwise slices of the boundary layer along the centerline of the 4:1 elliptic cone at five different Reynolds numbers. Flow is moving left to right. Each image is meant to be a representative sample of the boundary layer behavior at those flow conditions.
Frames (b) and (c) show examples of the rope-like waves which are characteristic of hypersonic transition in axisymmetric bodies.
