This photograph is of a vine called Gouania lupuloides, coated with a cluster of membracid nymphs sucking juice from the plant. Members of this family are often ant-attended, where the ants protect the nymphs while receiving excreted honey-dew in return. This photograph was taken in Fort Sherman, during the Semester in the Field in Panama.
