All of Plato's Symposium will be read in Greek, with related Platonic texts read in English. Classes will include close translation and reports on special topics. Emphasis will be on combining an introduction to Platonic philosophy with attention to the literary texture of the dialogue through detailed analysis of style, diction, and narrative technique.
