About OWL

The Organization of Women Leaders is rewriting the definition of feminism. As a student-founded, student-run non-profit organization, OWL provides a network of support for women at Princeton. Our officers, and the more than 800 men and women who have become a part of OWL since its founding in 2000, are dedicated to embracing the diversity, transforming the perceptions, and challenging the conventions of women's roles on our campus, in our communities, and around the world.

OWL holds monthly discussion meetings on Monday nights to raise issues of the day and provide a place for dialogue and questions. The topics and times may vary, but the discussion is always lively and snacks are always provided, so be sure to check the homepage for announcements.

In addition to our Monday meetings, OWL is involved in a number of community service initiatives in the Princeton area, from raising money for WomynSpace, a local women’s shelter, to founding Girls’ Empowerment, our student-run mentoring program for students at John Witherspoon Middle School.

OWL hosts numerous other events throughout the year, including movie showings, speaker events, and panels. Past speakers include former president of NOW Patricia Ireland, CEO of Oxygen Media Geraldine Laybourne, author Joyce Carol Oates and Travelocity CEO Michelle Peluso, to name a few. Our speaker series culminates in OWL’s annual spring conference, which has covered such topics as Women In the Nation’s Service and Women’s Health.

OWL seeks to create a dialogue about women’s roles both on and off campus while providing a place for women to come together and share their concerns and ambitions. OWL is a support group, a place for discussion, and a liaison between Princeton women, the University community, and the world at large to raise awareness to bring about change to improve the lives of all women.
